In 50 Shades, Ana does not grow much as a character. She gets thrown into this new world of sex, BDSM; she feels flustered and caught up in the high-profile, possessive whirlwind that is Christian Grey’s life. By the end of it, she feels not much more than confused. In Secretary, Lee overcomes a great deal of suffering and rises up to challenge Mr. Grey, which earns her his respect.
