Having unprotected sex leaves you with the risk of developing a sexually transmitted disease like gonorrhoea. Sometimes the symptoms of gonorrhoea in women are so mild that they go unnoticed. The first symptoms of gonorrhoea appear within ten days, so watch out for these signs.
Whitish discharge from the vagina: While the discharge from vagina could be candida or yeast infection, vaginal discharge is also one of the symptoms of gonorrhoea. The discharge is often uncomfortable and itchy.
Lower abdominal pain: The bacteria that cause the infection usually travels to the pelvis through the vagina, leading to lower abdominal pain.
Burning while urinating: You may think that the burning sensation during urinating is an indicator of UTI, but it can also indicate gonorrhoea. The vagina is extremely prone to gonorrhoea and the infection can spread through the urethra or any other opening.
Bleeding between periods: Gonorrhoea can cause vaginal bleeding between periods or bleeding that differs in character from the regular menstrual periods.
Spotting after intercourse: Spotting after intercourse may be a symptom of gonorrhoea. It can occur when you have sex with the same partner twice.
Swollen glands: The lymph nodes in your neck may become swollen and painful in reaction to the infection. This could often be a result of oral sex.
Flu-like symptoms: Gonorrhoea can cause symptoms that resemble flu. You may complain of fever, muscle pain, fatigue and headaches.
